Francourt Events are pleased to announce the 2023 edition of the “Crowned Mountain Festival” in partnership with the Rugby Club of Laon and supported by Aisne Department Regional Tourism and the City of Laon.
The Festival is open to players aged 11-14 and is an opportunity youngsters from the clubs in the Aisne Department, France to play against visiting teams from other countries.
Laon is situated just 2 hours from the Port of Calais and Eurotunnel along the A26 in the direction of Reims.
The City of Laon is a medieval city and a former capital of the country and is dominated by the magnificent Cathedral Notre Dame in the upper town. Visitors will have time to discover the town and the ramparts that surround what was a fortress city.
During World War 1 & 2 the city was occupied by German forces and nearby you can visit the battlegrounds of the Chemin des Dames where the World Rugby Memorial is located. Included in your visit is a visit to the Caverne du Dragon where WW1 was fought underground in the old quarries. There are strong connections to the UK and the game of rugby from this period.
This season the young players will have the chance to take part in a coaching session with our partners at RDJ Sports (South Africa). Their roster of coaching staff are involved in top level rugby at Club and International level and this will be a unique opportunity for the young players.
The whole weekend is a family friendly experience where parents and players get to have fun!
